A 4D3N Komodo sailing package from Bali is the shortest trip that reaches northern Komodo. Three nights on board buys you the one thing a 3D2N cannot give: the sailing hours to get past the central island cluster and up to Gili Lawa Darat and Gili Lawa Laut, roughly 3.5–5 hours from Labuan Bajo harbour by phinisi. Expect to fly Denpasar–Labuan Bajo (about 1 hour 10–20 minutes), board the same morning, and sail a loop that covers Padar, Pink Beach, the dragons, Manta Point and the north. Indicative pricing runs from around IDR 4.5–9 million per person on a shared cabin, and from roughly IDR 25–40 million per day for a whole deluxe phinisi. Komodo National Park fees are passed through at cost.
What does the extra night actually buy you?
Sailing time. That is the honest answer, and it is the reason most repeat guests upgrade from three days to four. A 3D2N route is built around the central park: Kelor, Manjarite, Kalong, Padar, Pink Beach, Loh Liang, Manta Point. Every one of those sits within about three hours of the harbour. Gili Lawa does not. Adding a third night converts a tight circuit into a proper loop, and it changes the character of the trip — you stop rushing between anchorages and start swimming, diving and photographing at each one.
Why a phinisi cannot cheat the distances
A traditional phinisi cruises at a modest, comfortable speed. Below are the working cruising times from Labuan Bajo that our captains plan around. They explain, better than any sales copy, why itineraries are shaped the way they are.

The sequence below is our standard northern loop. Treat it as a sample route: the actual order shifts with tide, wind, ranger slots and park scheduling, and your captain will say so at the Day 1 briefing rather than after the fact.

Prices below are indicative 2026–2027 guideline bands for a 4D3N departure, per person, twin share. They move with season, boat class and lead time, and your exact rate is confirmed in writing at booking.

What is included — and what is not
Included: cabin accommodation, all meals and snacks on board, drinking water, tea and coffee, snorkelling gear, tender transfers, English-speaking guide, crew, fuel within the standard park route, airport–harbour transfers in Labuan Bajo.
Not included: flights, Komodo National Park entrance and ranger fees, scuba diving and equipment rental, alcohol, travel insurance, crew gratuity. Park charges are passed to you at cost: foreign visitors currently pay approximately IDR 250,000 per person per day entrance, plus ranger, harbour and conservation components that bring the realistic all-in official budget to roughly IDR 300,000–400,000 per park day. Some operators file a bundled route ticket instead — around IDR 650,000 for the Komodo Island and Padar route, or roughly IDR 900,000 for Rinca — which is why quotes differ between companies. Who is this package right for?
It suits: first-time visitors who can spare four days and want to leave without a list of regrets; photographers who need golden hour twice and are not willing to trade Gili Lawa for a shorter flight home; mixed groups where some dive and some snorkel, because the northern anchorages serve both on the same day; couples who want the trip to feel like a holiday rather than a checklist.
It suits less well: travellers with only 48 hours in Flores — take the 2D1N package instead; anyone prone to serious seasickness during the December–March rainy months; guests who want hotel-grade rooms rather than cabins.
Frequently asked questions
How fit do I need to be?
Moderately. The Padar viewpoint is a built stone stairway of roughly 700–800 steps taking 20–40 minutes, and the Gili Lawa savannah hike is a gentler 20–30 minute climb on loose ground. Both have lower viewpoints you can stop at without missing much.
Will I get seasick?
Inside the park the water is mostly sheltered. The longer northern legs on Day 3 are the most exposed, so take tablets the night before rather than when you already feel unwell. April to November is noticeably calmer than January and February.
Is there a minimum age?
There is no legal minimum, but we recommend six years and above for comfort, and we will tell you honestly which boats have suitable cabins. See our family Komodo package for age-by-activity guidance.
Can I do laundry on board?
No. Three nights fits comfortably into a soft duffel: swimwear, quick-dry clothes, one warm layer for the pre-dawn tender ride, reef-safe sunscreen and a reusable bottle. Single-use plastic is discouraged or banned on most boats.
What happens if the weather closes Padar?
The captain reroutes and you are told at the previous evening’s briefing, not at 04:30. We substitute a sheltered alternative — usually extra time at Manta Point or Siaba. We do not sail into a stand-down; enforcement of adverse-weather departure limits in Komodo waters has tightened considerably, and we support that.
Do I need to book far ahead because of the park quota?
Yes. A daily visitor quota administered through the park’s booking system is in force, and June–September plus the Christmas and New Year window sell out first. Book 2–4 months ahead for peak season.
Is 4D3N better value than 3D2N?
Per day, yes. The fixed costs — flights, transfers, mobilisation — spread across four days instead of three, and the extra night unlocks a region the shorter trip physically cannot reach. Compare against our 3D2N package and the longer 5-day Bali–Komodo itinerary.
Can non-divers join a boat with divers?
Yes, and on this route it works well. Manta Point, Siaba and Pink Beach are excellent from the surface. Certified divers should read the dive liveaboard package for site-by-site certification requirements.
