Chartering a whole boat beats buying individual cabins from roughly eight guests upward, and it becomes obviously cheaper by twelve. At what group size does a charter make sense?

The break-even maths is straightforward. Take the per-person open-trip price for the cabin class you would otherwise buy, multiply by your headcount, and compare with the daily charter rate multiplied by nights. For a 3D2N trip on a deluxe boat, superior cabins bought individually might run IDR 5–7 million per person. Twelve guests is IDR 60–84 million. A deluxe charter for two nights sits at IDR 50–80 million. From twelve people the charter is at worst level and usually cheaper — and it includes exclusivity you cannot buy at any price on a shared boat.

All bands are 2026–2027 market guidelines excluding national park fees, flights, alcohol and diving. Note the pattern: cost per head falls until the vessel is full, then jumps when you need a second hull. Twelve to eighteen is the efficient zone.

What are the real capacity limits?

Boat brochures quote a maximum; comfort sits below it. Labuan Bajo phinisi run 25–40 metres with luxury vessels longer. A 30-metre deluxe hull with eight cabins carries sixteen guests legally and feels right at twelve to fourteen when everyone is on deck at sunset. Luxury operators cap their own boats at 10–18 guests for exactly this reason. For corporate groups we quote the comfortable number and tell you what the legal number is, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

How do you run a programme for twenty people on a boat?

Split the group by activity, not by seniority. Divers and snorkellers go to different sites at the same hour and reconvene for lunch. Two tenders make this work; one tender turns it into queuing.

Use the deck as a venue. The main saloon seats the group for a working session; the sun deck takes the sunset briefing. Vessels vary on power outlets and shade, so if you are running an actual meeting, tell us and we will filter the fleet accordingly.

Anchor the day with one shared moment. Kalong Island at dusk, when the flying foxes lift off in their thousands, is the reliable one. It needs no organising and no one talks through it.

Beach dinners are possible at selected sites with advance arrangement, subject to park rules on fires, waste and single-use plastic. We arrange them properly or not at all.

Running 30+ guests across two boats

Two hulls raft up at anchor so the group stays together in the evening and separates for the day. Crews coordinate by VHF, ranger slots at Loh Liang or Loh Buaya are booked as one block so nobody waits, and the tender rotation runs on a single published timetable. It is more coordination than a single boat, and it is entirely routine for our operations team.

Frequently asked questions

What is the alcohol policy?

Most boats allow you to bring your own with a corkage arrangement, and some stock a bar. Tell us the volume in advance so the crew can chill it; there is no shop between anchorages.

Can we run a presentation on board?

On larger vessels, yes — a portable projector and screen or a large monitor, with generator power. Ask us to confirm outlets and available wall space for your specific boat before you build the agenda.

Can the galley handle mixed dietary requirements?

Yes, with a list at least a week ahead. Halal is standard practice for Indonesian crews; vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy requirements are all workable. We send the list to the galley in writing and confirm back.

Can you provide an insurance certificate for our HSE team?

Yes. Seaworthiness certification, crew licences, passenger insurance documentation and the safety-equipment inventory are all available before contracting. Corporate risk teams ask for these regularly and we expect the request.

Can executives have single occupancy?

Yes, subject to cabin count. On a charter this is a rooming-list decision rather than a price decision, since you have already bought the boat — it only becomes a constraint when your headcount approaches the cabin capacity.

How far ahead should a corporate group book?

Four to six months for June–September, and longer if you need a specific vessel. A daily park visitor quota operates, and large ranger-escorted groups need slot booking, so late enquiries lose options rather than money.

Can we combine Komodo with a Bali programme?

What if a few guests are prone to seasickness?

Book upper-deck cabins for them, brief them to medicate the night before, and choose April–November dates. On a charter you also control the pace, so the captain can shorten legs and anchor earlier.
