Why does only the earliest flight connect to a same-day boarding?
This is the single most useful thing on this page. Boats leave Labuan Bajo harbour in the morning. Overnight phinisi departures typically board late morning to midday; day-trip speedboats leave earlier still, often before dawn for a Padar sunrise.
Work the clock backwards. A boat boarding at 11:00 needs you at the harbour by roughly 10:30. Airport to harbour is a 10–20 minute transfer. Add 20–30 minutes for baggage. That means you must land by about 09:30, which means departing Denpasar by roughly 08:00 at the latest.

A night in Labuan Bajo removes every failure mode at once — delay, cancellation, weather, a slow bag — and lets you board rested rather than sprinting. The connection trap is real here: an international flight landing at Denpasar at 22:00 cannot connect to a 06:00 domestic departure without an airport-area hotel and a very short night, and a long-haul arrival delay cascades directly into a missed boat. ATR turboprop services run tighter baggage allowances than jets — both by weight and by cabin-bag dimension, since the overhead bins are small. Divers should read this carefully.
- Weigh everything before you leave Bali. Excess baggage at the DPS domestic counter is charged per kilo and is not cheap.
- Regulators, computers and cameras go in the cabin where possible — they are the expensive, fragile, irreplaceable items.
- Consider renting BCD and wetsuit in Labuan Bajo rather than flying them. Most dive boats carry decent rental kit, and the weight saving is substantial.
- Dive tanks and full cylinders are not carried. Do not try.
