What is the actual Komodo National Park entrance fee?
The headline number is the PNBP entrance ticket: approximately IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day. Indonesian citizens pay far less — around IDR 50,000 on a weekday and roughly IDR 75,000 on Sundays and public holidays. That per-day wording matters. A 3D2N boat trip that enters the park on two separate calendar days is charged for two days, not one. It is the single most common reason a quote looks higher than a traveller expected.
All figures below are the fee structure as it stands for the 2026–2027 season. Park tariffs are set by the Balai Taman Nasional Komodo and can change without much notice, so treat this as a planning table and confirm the exact amount in writing when you book.

Divers land near the top of that band: entrance plus the surcharge plus the usual harbour and conservation lines puts total official charges close to IDR 300,000 per diver per day before any boat or gear cost.
Is it true that Komodo now costs IDR 3.75 million to enter?
No. This is the most persistent myth in Komodo travel planning and it deserves a flat answer. In 2022 the provincial government proposed a “premium membership” scheme charging IDR 3.75 million per person for access to Komodo Island and Padar. It triggered strike action from local operators, and it was cancelled and never took effect. The standard foreign entrance fee remains in the IDR 250,000 range. If a blog, a forum post or a tout quotes you millions of rupiah for a park ticket, they are working from stale 2022 headlines.
Why do two operators quote me different park fees?
Because there are two legitimate ways to file the paperwork. Some operators charge the plain daily entrance plus separate ranger, harbour and conservation lines. Others buy a bundled route ticket that includes ranger-escorted trekking for a specific circuit — roughly IDR 650,000 per foreign visitor for the Komodo Island and Padar route, or around IDR 900,000 for the Rinca (Loh Buaya) route. Depending on how the operator files it, that bundle sits on top of, or replaces, the plain daily ticket.
The practical test is simple. Ask any operator two questions: are park fees included or passed through at cost, and which filing do you use. Do I need a permit or a guide for Komodo National Park?
You do not apply for a personal permit in advance the way you would for a mountaineering peak — your operator handles ticketing at the ranger post. But a guide is not optional on the dragon trails. Ranger escort is compulsory at Loh Liang on Komodo Island and Loh Buaya on Rinca, and independent walking on those trails is prohibited. That ranger fee is a real cost, not a tip, and it is why the trek line appears separately on most invoices.
Rinca’s rebuilt elevated walkways and viewing platforms have made it the preferred dragon-viewing island for many operators. Both islands remain open to guided visitors — the long-rumoured full closure of Komodo Island was never implemented.
Is there a daily visitor quota, and does it affect me?
Yes, and it is the reason booking lead time now matters more than it did five years ago. A daily visitor quota administered through the SIORA booking system has been reported as applying from April 2026, with the widely-cited figure sitting around 1,000 visitors per day across the park. We deliberately do not publish a hard cap number here, because the figure has moved during consultation and only the park authority can confirm the current one.
What is certain in practice: peak-season mornings at Padar and Loh Liang fill, park sites can close temporarily for conservation or weather, and boats that have their slots confirmed early sail the itinerary they sold. What are the fees NOT covering?
Park charges buy you access and a ranger. They do not include your boat, meals, snorkelling gear, scuba diving, transfers or flights. On a typical package the operator lists park fees as an exclusion precisely so you can see they are being passed through at cost rather than marked up — that is the honest way to handle a government tariff that changes. How do I pay, and in what currency?
Park tickets are denominated in rupiah and settled locally. Most guests never touch the counter: the boat’s guide collects the total at the Day 1 briefing or the operator invoices it with the balance. Cash in rupiah is still the most frictionless option at ranger posts, though card and QRIS acceptance in Labuan Bajo has improved considerably. Bring small denominations — change at a ranger post at 05:30 is not a given.

Can I visit Komodo National Park without a tour operator?
You can reach Labuan Bajo independently, but you cannot walk the dragon trails without a licensed ranger, and boat access to Padar, Pink Beach and Manta Point is by chartered or shared vessel. In practice every visitor books through a boat operator of some kind.
Do I pay park fees if I only snorkel and never land?
Yes. The entrance ticket covers entry into the national park’s marine and terrestrial zones, not just island landings. Manta Point and Taka Makassar are inside the park boundary.
Will the fees change in 2027?
Possibly. Tariffs are periodically revised by the park authority. Book with an operator who states park fees as a pass-through at cost, so a mid-year revision is settled transparently rather than absorbed into a repriced package.
